
Major General Miguel Aguilar
New Mexico Adjutant General, New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Cabinet Secretary
Major General (MG) Miguel Aguilar started his military career at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM. MG Aguilar commissioned in the New Mexico National Guard and became a Platoon Leader for A Battery, 1-200th Air Defense Artillery holding numerous positions within the 1-200th Air Defense Artillery Company and Battalion. In 1999 BG Aguilar transferred to the 515th Regional Training Institute and held positions as a TAC officer and Company Commander and the S1. In 2005 Aguilar deployed with the Embedded Training Team, 205th Regional Corps Advisory group. Upon his return, Aguilar became the Plans and Operations Officer for Joint Force Headquarters then transferred to become the Operations Officer for the 111th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.
In January 2011, MG Aguilar became the Commander for the 1-200th Infantry battalion and deployed the Battalion to Sinai, Egypt in support of Task Force Sinai, Multi-National Force and Observers mission. After completing his Battalion Command, MG Aguilar became the Assistant G1 for Joint Force headquarters and then into command again as the Commander for the 111th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and Commanded through the Brigades transition from a Maneuver Enhancement Brigade to a Sustainment Brigade. In October 2019, Aguilar became the Deputy Chief of Staff-operations. He then became the Deputy Adjutant General for the New Mexico National Guard and was assigned as a Dual Hat Deputy Commanding General for 1st Army, Division West.
He is currently the Adjutant General of the New Mexico National Guard, and serves as the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Cabinet Secretary
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 1 Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass “M” Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 2, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Multinational Force and Observers Medal and the Combat Action Badge.
